Kirsten and Scott--a husband and wife that are separated by jailhouse walls, as he is incarcerated despite his innocence. He is facing life in prison without the possibility of parole. As a family of 4, and then 5, as the story unfolds, Scott and Kirsten knew the "good life." But God had a better one in store. They first had to be broken. They plumb new depths of their faith and in their knowledge of the Word in these days that some would consider dark, but that God infused with great joy. Throughout a total of 16 months of separation they wrote letters to each other that are filled with the stories that capture the depth of their love, family life, fear, questioning, and details of what God is doing in, around and through them. Many of the letters are laced with snaphots of jailhouse interactions in the maximum security unit where God still dwells. It is inspiring to see how the Holy Spirit moves throughout the whole situation when you see Scott’s letter next to Kirsten’s as the days go by. Prayers are being prayed and answered and it is all recorded in the daily wrap-up. It is a God story. It is a love story. And the letters are delivered daily. Hi.  I know this is a very silly card, not my typical choice.  Actually, I’ve had this for like 10 years–from when I worked at the stationary store.  Had I ever told you about that before?

I thought I may as well send it to you, because I won’t send it to anyone else!  I know your opinion of me is already shaped and this won’t negatively alter it, right?

Today was our visit (Ryan and I).  He munched on cookies until Tom’s Farms where we stopped for chicken stars and gas.  We were home by 12:45 and Kayt was ready to be put down.  She and Caleb had a rip-roaring time at the pumpkin patch and playing cars, painting, etc.

Then I got to rest for 1 1/2 hrs.  I cleaned a little and then Tausha came over and hung out until 5:45 or so.  I loaned her maternity clothes and she read some of your letters and we talked.  Josh is in Reno presenting at a science conference.

Then Stef and James brought over Filipi’s Pizza.  James and Kayti played until after 7.  Then he read her stories before bed.  It was good for her to play with him.  She had so much fun.  They played cars and stickers and ate ice cream.

They read your letters and Philip’s letter which arrived today.  How cool of him to do that.  That means a lot to me.  I’d really like to meet him.  He’s probably gone by the time that you read this.  I bet your paths will cross again.

We watched a recorded episode of Friends where Rachel tells Ross she is pregnant with his baby.  It was funny.

Good day.  But, of course, in the context of a perennial hole in my world with you far away.  I miss you.

Love, Kirsti
