Kirsten and Scott--a husband and wife that are separated by jailhouse walls, as he is incarcerated despite his innocence. He is facing life in prison without the possibility of parole. As a family of 4, and then 5, as the story unfolds, Scott and Kirsten knew the "good life." But God had a better one in store. They first had to be broken. They plumb new depths of their faith and in their knowledge of the Word in these days that some would consider dark, but that God infused with great joy. Throughout a total of 16 months of separation they wrote letters to each other that are filled with the stories that capture the depth of their love, family life, fear, questioning, and details of what God is doing in, around and through them. Many of the letters are laced with snaphots of jailhouse interactions in the maximum security unit where God still dwells. It is inspiring to see how the Holy Spirit moves throughout the whole situation when you see Scott’s letter next to Kirsten’s as the days go by. Prayers are being prayed and answered and it is all recorded in the daily wrap-up. It is a God story. It is a love story. And the letters are delivered daily. december 10th – inside/out

Hi Sweetheart,

Pretty good day today.  We had blanket exchange, so I finally got to trade my thin blanket for one with some substance.  That may make a difference in my nights’ sleep.

We had a really good Bible Study today.   There were 8 of us, probably the core of what the study will be built on.  Good guys.  We started with John and the introduction of Jesus.  We also had a lively discussion regarding being called to live our lives differently. and the many faces that represents.  It was cool because as we would move from one subject to another the guys would actively search out supporting scripture.  We probably met for a little over an hour.  I can see this being a study that will last, even as guys come and go, as the group grows.

Good news regarding Sylvia.  Jim made contact last week and had invited her to church and talked to her about counseling.  She was receptive to both.  She visited Jonathan her on Sunday and mentioned that she felt welcomed at Jim’s church and felt the counseling really helped.  She is going to continue attending that church and get the counseling she needs.  She is also excited about going to the Women’s Bible Study on Wednesday nights.  We continue to pray that the Lord will work things out for her.  She’s searching and reaching out, I’m glad we were able to help point her back to God.

I got side-tracked a little while writing.  I was remembering when Mary visited and was asking about Ja-Mool.  It still makes me laugh.  I also picture you, Crystal and Leon in stitches over it that night in the downstairs living room.  I can’t wait to be with you guys and laugh with friends.  I look forward to hanging out with them and just laughing and being silly.  They are a neat couple and easy to be with.  I guess we have a lot of friends like this.  We are fortunate, blessed.

First and foremost though, I want to spend time with you sweetheart.  I had gotten used to you being by my side whe I awoke.  I had come to depend on that, to cherish that.  I am ready to be back with my best friend.  My fingers need to do some back scratching.  It’s time for some TLC.

We will be back together soon my love.

Youe adoring husband, Scott
