Kirsten and Scott--a husband and wife that are separated by jailhouse walls, as he is incarcerated despite his innocence. He is facing life in prison without the possibility of parole. As a family of 4, and then 5, as the story unfolds, Scott and Kirsten knew the "good life." But God had a better one in store. They first had to be broken. They plumb new depths of their faith and in their knowledge of the Word in these days that some would consider dark, but that God infused with great joy. Throughout a total of 16 months of separation they wrote letters to each other that are filled with the stories that capture the depth of their love, family life, fear, questioning, and details of what God is doing in, around and through them. Many of the letters are laced with snaphots of jailhouse interactions in the maximum security unit where God still dwells. It is inspiring to see how the Holy Spirit moves throughout the whole situation when you see Scott’s letter next to Kirsten’s as the days go by. Prayers are being prayed and answered and it is all recorded in the daily wrap-up. It is a God story. It is a love story. And the letters are delivered daily. december 26th – inside/out

by Kirst on December 28, 2009

Hi Sweetheart,

It was such a treat to see everyone today.  I only wish I could’ve had a little time alone with you.  The past visits where we did have “our time” were so good.  I look forward to and cherish that time of connecti0n.  Maybe next time.

Having Clint, Kindi and Cami out here feels good.  I can’t help but wish they lived out here with/near us.  I want Kayti and Ryan to grow up knowing them, loving them.  And I would love to be able to get together and hang out with them, like we used to do with the Hendersons.  Maybe God has that in His plans.  I’m going to pray about it and we’ll see what unfolds.

Tonight after dinner I got called out to the bubble.  The Dep was holding a stack of mail (30 letters to be exact) and asked me if I thought it was a little excessive.  Hilarious!  He then told me I had 2 minutes to look through them, pick 5 I wanted to keep and send the rest to property.  I was more than a little shocked by his statement since I didn’t realize that first year deputies had the authority to override and rewrite United State Postal Code.  While he was handing me the stack I think the more seasoned “CS” was informing him of his error because he quickly told me to bag up my excess books and letters and put them on my property tomorrow.  Suddenly he was granting me a lot more time.  It also helped that Zach came up to me while this was going on and played a support role.  I informed him of the situation and he loudly asked, “You mean you haven’t had a chance to read these yet?  They might have pictures in them.”  He continued along the same theme while the Dep and I came to an agreement.  It still amazes me that he could supercede federal law and interfere with mail delivery.  In any event, I packed up some books and the excess letters that I had and put them on my property for you to pick up.  It should be ready by the next time you come up.

Time for sleep sweetgirl.  I pray that you will get a peaceful rest and wonderful dreams.

I love you, Scott
