Kirsten and Scott--a husband and wife that are separated by jailhouse walls, as he is incarcerated despite his innocence. He is facing life in prison without the possibility of parole. As a family of 4, and then 5, as the story unfolds, Scott and Kirsten knew the "good life." But God had a better one in store. They first had to be broken. They plumb new depths of their faith and in their knowledge of the Word in these days that some would consider dark, but that God infused with great joy. Throughout a total of 16 months of separation they wrote letters to each other that are filled with the stories that capture the depth of their love, family life, fear, questioning, and details of what God is doing in, around and through them. Many of the letters are laced with snaphots of jailhouse interactions in the maximum security unit where God still dwells. It is inspiring to see how the Holy Spirit moves throughout the whole situation when you see Scott’s letter next to Kirsten’s as the days go by. Prayers are being prayed and answered and it is all recorded in the daily wrap-up. It is a God story. It is a love story. And the letters are delivered daily. Hi Sweetheart,

How are your spirits?  I hope good, we have so much to be thankful for.  One of the 30 letters I received last night was from you. Yea!  It was the one with your prayer in it.  Wow!  I love praying with you, we need to pray together more.  It makes me feel so close to you.  God is wonderful that way.  Thank you for including that in the letter.

Good visit with my parents tonight.  My friend Art (Lil Art) had a visit at the same time.  His whole family was here and approached my parents to say thank you.  His mom made it a special point to come over during our visit and thank me for befriending him.  They seem like great people, it breaks my heart that little Art-dog is in here.  I caught myself wishing that there was something more I could do for him, but the best thing I can do is to continue to point him toward God.  That is what I am going to do.

We have a new white guy in the tank.  Actually he has been here for 4 days and will be leaving tonight.  I think I mentioned him to you yesterday or the day before.  His name is Bob, probably mid-40’s, and has a wife and kids.  He comes from money and was in here on embezzlement charges in connection to a casino.  He has attended our Bible Study faithfully and we have benefited from his input.  Earlier today he asked me if I had attended a Bible college.  I filled him in on my college experience and he said, “I thought so.”  We’ve had some good conversations, ones where I didn’t always have to be thinking about simplifying my statements or the words that I used.  Tonight at dinner he mentioned that his attorney had informed his wife that he would be getting out tonight.  So I told him that I appreciated the chance to meet him and the fact that he participated in the Bible Study.  I also wished him well and told him that we will miss him.  He responded by saying that he feels fortunate to have been placed in our tank and that it has been a life changing experience.  I believe that he was serious.  He also told me he got my info from Big Tony and he will write me.  It would be cool if he does.  It’s interesting to see the loves that God touches, we’re lucky to witness it first hand.

I’ll talk with you soon my love.  Our reuniting us just around the corner.

I love you, Scott
