Kirsten and Scott--a husband and wife that are separated by jailhouse walls, as he is incarcerated despite his innocence. He is facing life in prison without the possibility of parole. As a family of 4, and then 5, as the story unfolds, Scott and Kirsten knew the "good life." But God had a better one in store. They first had to be broken. They plumb new depths of their faith and in their knowledge of the Word in these days that some would consider dark, but that God infused with great joy. Throughout a total of 16 months of separation they wrote letters to each other that are filled with the stories that capture the depth of their love, family life, fear, questioning, and details of what God is doing in, around and through them. Many of the letters are laced with snaphots of jailhouse interactions in the maximum security unit where God still dwells. It is inspiring to see how the Holy Spirit moves throughout the whole situation when you see Scott’s letter next to Kirsten’s as the days go by. Prayers are being prayed and answered and it is all recorded in the daily wrap-up. It is a God story. It is a love story. And the letters are delivered daily. november 10th – inside/out

Hi Sweetheart,

It was such a boost to talk with you.  And hearing of your conversation with Chad put me at ease.  He is a good friend and has been there every time we have needed him.  I laugh when I picture him standing in the middle of the street trying to pick up his clothes and talk with you at the same time.  The fact that he does this, without hesitation or complaint, is a testament to the love he has for us.  We are surrounded by such great people!

I spoke with my parents this afternoon for about 30 minutes.  It was fun. lighthearted conversation about everything from trucks to computers.  They’re really looking forward to watching Kayti and Ryan next week.  They mentioned you might visit me late on Wednesday night while they play with the kids.  I told them about the funny things Kayti was doing during our call this morning.  And then my dad just said out of the blue, “You know, Kirsten is an amazing woman.”  He is excited about the relationship that you guys have built.  I thought it was pretty cool.

I went back and read all the letters I received from you yesterday.  In your quest to make my life in here more comfortable you mentioned sending in a Ruth’s Chris rib chop with all the sides we like.  I read that again tonight and had to laugh because we received “franks and beans.” You talk about opposite ends of the spectrum.  I wound up eating the beans and decided to chop up the franks and add them to soup later tonight.  Maybe add a little extra chili powder I have…Baamm!  And maybe a package of bacon and cheddar crackers…Baamm Baamm!  Oh yes, don’t be surprised if the next episode of Iron Chef doesn’t show me from West Valley kitchen stadium taking on Iron chef Sakai.  The suprise ingredient for tonight’s match….processed turkey patty, at least I think it’s turkey.  Hey it may not even be meat, but it sure will make the contest interesting.  Okay, I’m being a goof.

In the letter you also ask about renewing our vows.  My desire would be to renew them once I am out of here.  Maybe in a ceremony on our front lawn or back porch in the wide open spanse of God’s creation.  What are your thoughts?  Samll or large?  Indoors or outdoors?  Open or private?  I’m flexible, I just want to celebrate Christ’s love in us and to reaffirm my complete devotion and unconditional love for you.  I’m sure we’ll talk more about it, I’m excited.

No, we didn’t. We need to.

Yes you should! I think it would be a great way to begin a new season for you and Scott and your family…a season when God is going to lavish you in His love and blessings!
