Kirsten and Scott--a husband and wife that are separated by jailhouse walls, as he is incarcerated despite his innocence. He is facing life in prison without the possibility of parole. As a family of 4, and then 5, as the story unfolds, Scott and Kirsten knew the "good life." But God had a better one in store. They first had to be broken. They plumb new depths of their faith and in their knowledge of the Word in these days that some would consider dark, but that God infused with great joy. Throughout a total of 16 months of separation they wrote letters to each other that are filled with the stories that capture the depth of their love, family life, fear, questioning, and details of what God is doing in, around and through them. Many of the letters are laced with snaphots of jailhouse interactions in the maximum security unit where God still dwells. It is inspiring to see how the Holy Spirit moves throughout the whole situation when you see Scott’s letter next to Kirsten’s as the days go by. Prayers are being prayed and answered and it is all recorded in the daily wrap-up. It is a God story. It is a love story. And the letters are delivered daily. Hi Sweetheart,
It’s just after lunch on Monday.  We stayed in our cells this morning, which allowed me to catch up on some sleep.  I haven’t been sleeping very well and really needed that additional time to rest.  I’m sure you could use some additional sleep yourself, maybe even wishing you could be locked up in [...]

Hi Babe,
It has been a full night.  Buddy held your picture and both kids went to sleep in your shirts.  We all miss you terribly.  Buddy is especially sad today.
It is now one month that you’ve been gone and life is becoming normal…but you are a missing piece.  I miss your presence in and around [...]

Hi Sweetheart,
It’s just after lunch on Sunday and we’re back in our cells.
Church service was pretty good this morning, revolving around Samson.  At the same time they were holding a “live” church service  out in the “G” room.  I heard them come over the loud speaker asking if anyone wanted to attend, but due to [...]

Hi Sweetheart,
It’s just after dinner on Thursday night.  My cellie Rob and I have been discussing everything from BBQing to handball to religion.  He’s a good guy, it’s too bad he is going to be leaving in a week.  Change has been the norm around here lately, though.  So again I pray, “Lord send someone [...]

Hey!  We talked earlier and I was so tired.  I never did sleep much, but I have more energy.  It is 9:00.  Mal has been sleeping for 4-5 hours.  She was supposed to eat at 6:30.  Yikes.  I hope she sleeps tonight.  I will wake her up to eat soon.
Ryan and I hung out in [...]

Hi Sweetheart,
It’s mid-afternoon on Wednesday.  We finished our Bible Study and now there is about an hour left until they lock us down for chow.  Carlos and I spent a lot of time just pouring over the Scriptures sharing/exchanging verses that inspire us.  The Bible Study group was small today, but we had several people [...]

Hi Sweetheart,
It’s just after lunch on Tuesday and we are back in our cells.  Jeff did, in fact, get released last night.  I told him I would continue to pray for him as he works to get a hold of his life again.  He is a nice guy and he was a pretty decent cellie.
My [...]
