Kirsten and Scott--a husband and wife that are separated by jailhouse walls, as he is incarcerated despite his innocence. He is facing life in prison without the possibility of parole. As a family of 4, and then 5, as the story unfolds, Scott and Kirsten knew the "good life." But God had a better one in store. They first had to be broken. They plumb new depths of their faith and in their knowledge of the Word in these days that some would consider dark, but that God infused with great joy. Throughout a total of 16 months of separation they wrote letters to each other that are filled with the stories that capture the depth of their love, family life, fear, questioning, and details of what God is doing in, around and through them. Many of the letters are laced with snaphots of jailhouse interactions in the maximum security unit where God still dwells. It is inspiring to see how the Holy Spirit moves throughout the whole situation when you see Scott’s letter next to Kirsten’s as the days go by. Prayers are being prayed and answered and it is all recorded in the daily wrap-up. It is a God story. It is a love story. And the letters are delivered daily. It’s just before dinner on Wednesday evening.  Been kind of a wierd day.  After we recevied commissary this afternoon we were informed that there would be inspections to be.  Having never been through an “inspection” here I wasn’t entirely sure what was in store.  Some guys thought it would be a “shakedown,” where the Deps [...]

Hi Sweetheart,
It’s just after dinner on Tuesday evening.  I’m so glad I got the chance to talk with you earlier.  I really don’t think that we’ll get back out tonight, so being able to call you is out of the question.  It was cool to hear the commotion in the background during the call.  Made [...]

Hi Sweetheart,
It’s just before dinner on Monday evening.  I put in another medical request to see the nurse.  My cough and cold don’t seem to be going away.  The cough is definitely the worst part because it keeps me up at night.  Maybe they’ll give me some more cough medicine, what I had before seemed [...]

Hi Sweetheart,
It’s just after lockdown on Saturday night.  Carlos had my tablet all day and this is my first opportunity to write you.  I was feeling some anxiety about possibly not getting to write you today.
I need to get to sleep.  My cellie has been distracting me.  He’s pretty worried about his past following him [...]

Hi Sweetheart,
It’s just before dinner on Friday night.  The whole day has really felt more like a Saturday, not sure why.  Can’t believe it is already New Year’s Eve though, the month of December has flown by.  I guess now that I am looking back it has flown by, but while we were living it [...]

Hi Babe,
It is early Thursday afternoon.  It has been a frustrating day.  But, all three kids went down simultaneously for naps.  I got a bath and started to lay down.  I decided it would be more restful to my spirit to accomplish a few things.
The plastic sheeting (we had a flood) came down today and [...]

Card Sentiment:
One Tough Cookie.  I don’t really get that.  Cookies aren’t tough.  They’re soft and chewy.  And if they’re hot out of the oven and chocolate is involved, they’re soft, chewy and all melty.  There’s nothing tough about them.  Sure, if you leave them out for awhile, they get hard, but not tough.  Anyway, who [...]

Good Evening Sweetheart,
It’s just before dinner on Thursday.  I am trying to get this letter finished up so I can get it in the mail tonight.  Different deputies run things according to their own schedule, so the trick is to learn how each one operates.  The one that is currently on duty cuts off mail [...]

Hi Sweetheart,
It’s just before dinner on Wednesday evening.  Based on what show was on TV, I would guess it is around 8 PM.  Food should be here soon.  Which probably means we won’t get out tonight.  And I was hoping to have some time on the phone with just the two of us.  Perhaps tomorrow [...]
